Provider is the distillation of Alvieno James De Matos Oliani Stinson’s experiences traveling through the South Pacific. His work addresses the trade of goods, the development and proliferation of cultures over time, concepts of modernity and primitivism, and spirituality.
Artworks double as burlap sacks carrying items indicative of the material culture of the region, such as coconut, betelnuts, chicken bones, and sugar.

Meet the artist
Alvieno James De Matos Oliani Stinson (b. 1996) is a Visual Artist and Real Estate developer based in Ithaca, NY. His art practice encompasses affordable housing and regenerative hospitality development, abstract figuration, performance art, books, and sculpture. His work explores people’s connection to each other, their environment, and political institutions, and how these connections impact social relations, material culture, trade, and democracy.
Alvieno graduated from Cornell University in 2023 with a Master’s in Real Estate Development and a Master’s in Urban & Regional Planning. He graduated in 2019 from the School of Visual Arts with a Bachelors in Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and he has been featured on CBS’s The Dig, The Caribbean Broadcasting Station’s Morning Report, Artsy.com, and more.
